Real-time world-cup soccer goal alert with cloudBit and Arduino

by Om

Published on July 23, 2014

  • It gives a real-time alert everytime a goal is a scored or a yellow/red card is issued during any world cup soccer game. This works in near real-time as and when the goad/card occurs in the game.

How To Make It

STEP 1

We had to use a bit of a hack to get this working in near real-time because most of the IFTTT recipes don't work in real-time except a few, Email being one of them.

STEP 2

Subscribed to the twitter world cup alert https://twitter.com/fifawcalerts Add it to mobile alerts via a Google Voice number so it sends an SMS to GV when a new tweet is tweeted. GV in turn sends it as an email.

STEP 3

Setup an email client on the PC with rule to auto forward the email to [email protected] Use the same email account to create a Recipe on IFTTT to send a signal to cloudBit when an email is received

STEP 4

Connect cloudBit to Arduino and program it to play a sequence of sound and LED lights when a signal is received on the Cloud Module. Create Circuit: Power + Fork + (1st Channel) Cloud Module 1 + Arduino + (2nd Channel) Cloud Module 2 + (d0) Bargraph + (D5) Speaker + (D9) Bargraph

STEP 5

In this project we used two separate email accounts and corresponding GV numbers to control two separate Cloud Modules; one for emails with text 'goal' and the other for all emails without text ‘goal’

STEP 6

We made a second version of this with Adafruit Neopixel as you can see in the second video.
