The littleBits Global Chapters program launched just over one year ago. Since it’s inception, 250 Chapters have been started by passionate individuals and organizations in 55 countries– from Beirut to Bangkok, Cape Town to Chicago, Mexico City to Munich and so many places in between. Through these Chapter programs, we’ve seen first-hand that some of the greatest learning and development happens at these Chapters, and believe it’s because invention and exploration pique curiosity. This is what led us to a new page in our Chapters program.

Today, we are thrilled to announce a new extension to the program called School Chapters. School Chapters are a global network of educators who use littleBits in their classrooms and after-school programs to teach STEM/STEAM through invention and monthly challenges. Our CEO and Founder, Ayah Bdeir, believes that “invention and real-world examples are what we need to inject enthusiasm for STEM into students,” and the School Chapters program will help facilitate that. The  program provides educators with a way to exchange knowledge and, most importantly, share lessons and inventions from their classrooms.

HOW TO GET STARTED

– First, review and make sure you can meet the requirements outlined below in “What we expect from you.” This is very important!
– Next, you’ll complete an online application so we can learn more about you and your classroom.
– After we review your application, we’ll set up an informal, introductory call to get to know you better.
– If you’re approved, you’ll get tons of information from us about how to get started and be successful.

WHAT WE EXPECT FROM YOU

-You will need to have access to a physical space, and lots of Bits so enough kids can create inventions. Ideally you’ll have a Workshop Set, five STEAM Student Sets, or a similar collection of Bits. If you don’t have a kit yet, don’t worry! You’ll get a discount once you’re approved so you can load up.
-You will commit to a minimum of one school year as an active Chapter. That means you’ll be participating in a bunch of fun challenges.
– You will participate in at least five of our monthly challenges. These workshops can be as big or small as you’d like!
-You will take time to document inventions with your students and upload them to the littleBits invention page. Your inventions will show up on your Chapter homepage, and your students get to be part of the larger community and have a chance at winning littleBits prizes every month.
-You will participate in our Chapter evaluation process by filling out feedback surveys every few months. It’s important that we get your feedback so we can constantly improve the program. We want make sure that you’re feeling supported, successful and that your students are getting the most out of the Chapter program.
