Wine Chime

by littleBits

Published on April 23, 2014

Make a little music with an acoustic chime created with littleBits, wine glasses, and a wrench. This installation was built with the littleBits MoMA Bundle!

How To Make It

STEP 1

Step 1. Assemble the circuit: power + slide dimmer + wire + DC motor.

STEP 2

Step 2. Cut a T-shaped piece of cardboard and mount the DC motor + wire to the top of the T. Secure it with rubber bands.

STEP 3

Step 3. Drill two small holes at both ends of a wooden dowel. Press the D shaft into one of these holes. Tie fishing line to the other hole.

STEP 4

Step 4. Find a place on the ceiling to attach the Bits to. Use zip ties and glue dots to secure them.

STEP 5

Step 5. Attach a small piece of metal to the end of the fishing line. We used a tiny wrench.

STEP 6

Step 6. Set up a number of water glasses in a circle. Make a smaller inner circle using wine glasses. Now, the hanging metal wrench can travel in a track between the two circles.

STEP 7

Step 7. You can determine the tone of each glass by adding different amounts of water to them. Power up your Wine Chime (by flipping the little black switch on the power Bit) and listen to the pitch perfect sound of your installation!
