Aunt Dot's "Table Christmas"

by JackANDJude

Published on December 14, 2015

Jack's Great Aunt Dot calls this "Table Christmas".  The lights stay on as long as it is plugged in, and they pulse with the music when we press the button.  Now we all press the button whenever we want to punctuate our conversation with a Christmas song.

It's an MP3 player with a string of led's attached to a proto module.

Duration: 1 hour

How To Make It

1

Attach led string to proto module & make circuit Take a string of battery powered led's - the kind that only need 2 AA batteries, and snip off the battery pack and strip the wire about 1/4 inch with wire strippers. Set aside the battery pack, because we won't need it anymore. Connect the negative end of the led's wire in the top left screw hole, and the positive end in the top center screw hole. If your led's don't light when you test, try swapping these wires. All three jumper pins should be in place in the proto module. The picture shows a circuit I played with, but Aunt Dot and I actually settled on this one: USB power + Button + MP3 Player + speaker + Proto Module.

2

Place circuit under a mini Christmas tree Place the circuit under your mini Christmas tree on shoes or a mounting board to keep it all securely connected. Then string the led lights around your mini tree.

Load MP3 Files Save some Christmas MP3 files onto your micro SD card.  We used royalty free Christmas songs by Kevin MacLeod, available here: http://incompetech.com/music/royalty-free/index.html/index.html?genre=Holiday

Find a place for it After we played with it in the dining room, we placed it on the side bar in the kitchen next to the apple and pumpkin pies.  We unplug it at night or when it's not in use.
