Spinning Light Bubbles

by GeekyTadpoles

Published on March 19, 2017

We made a bubble spinner that spun some bubbles.

We really wanted to launch a bubble into space, or at least up in the air. Unfortunately we never achieved lift off, in this respect our launcher was a complete failure. However, we discovered that by using a dimmer switch we could maintain the size of the bubble for some time and also that the bubble would spin in the direction the fan rotated.

Any ideas on how to achieve lift off would be welcome.

How To Make It

STEP 1 : Bubble Booster

We taped the square housing of the fan to one end of a round tube with some gaffer tape and reduced the diameter of the other end of the tube to fit the plastic O ring. This was called our bubble booster. It needed four BBQ sticks, cut to size, to elevate the booster above the LED and allow for an air intake. We also added a gantry to hold the wire bubble hoop steady over the fan.

STEP 2 : Bubble Mix

We put 1/2 pint of warm water in to a bowl and added 1 tablespoon of washing up liquid and 1 teaspoon on corn syrup. we stirred the mixture together slow and steady avoiding making it froth up.

STEP 3 : Expanding the project

Since we had some other LittleBits we started adding on some sounds and light and made a 'LAUNCH' sign to light up from the battery led when we were operating our Bubble Spinner.
