Restless Feet

Restless feet is a sculpture created with beeswax, rice paper, pins, and thread and illuminated with LED Bits.

How To Make It

First create a mold for your sculpture. I created a mold of my feet using plaster gauze. Make sure you use several layers of the plaster gauze so the mold isn't too fragile. It's best to have a friend help you with this step since it is difficult to create a mold of yourself by yourself.

Allow the plaster mold 24 hours to fully dry.

Layer beeswax and ripped up pieces of rice paper into your mold. I used a paintbrush to apply the beeswax, and continued applying layers until the beeswax was about 1/8 of an inch thick.

Carefully remove your sculpture from the plaster mold. Unfortunately I had to break my mold in order to remove the beeswax feet from it.

Randomly stick tiny pins throughout the beeswax.

Tie the end of the thread to one pin, and then loop it around all the other pins until you've created a pattern you like.

Build a circuit of Bits that glow. I made my circuit by connecting power + long LED + bright LED + long LED.

Slide the LED underneath your sculpture, turn off the lights, and let the sculpture glow!
