Pascal Pulley

Use your Gizmos & Gadgets Kit, 2nd Edition to build this pulley system to lower objects from a ledge or tower, just like the way Rapunzel uses her hair in Disney Tangled!

How To Make It

STEP 1 :

Build your circuit.

STEP 2 :

Press your circuit onto the mounting board.

STEP 3 :

Press your DC motor onto the mounting board.

STEP 4 :

Break two full wooden pencils in half and shave all four pieces down so that they each become two inches long. Break off any sharp tips if necessary.

STEP 5 :

Slide a standard pink eraser head onto each of your four pencil pieces.

STEP 6 :

Slide your four pencil pieces through the four big holes on your wheel so that the eraser heads fit tightly.

STEP 7 :

Slide your four pencil pieces through the four big holes on your second wheel. Make sure that the extruded D shape in the middle of the wheel is face-up.

STEP 8 :

Use scissors to trim off half an inch of four additional pink eraser heads.

STEP 9 :

Slide your four trimmed eraser heads onto the ends of the four pencils and pull the second wheel up so that the wheel fits tightly.

STEP 10 :

Attach your connected wheels to your DC motor.

STEP 11 :

Use Glue Dots to attach your mounting board to a table so that the wheels hang off the edge.

STEP 12 :

Cut a long piece of string.

STEP 13 :

Tie one end of your string to any of the pencils.

STEP 14 :

Wrap your string around the pencils clockwise.

STEP 15 :

Download the image of Disney Rapunzel (Rapunzel-Pulley.jpg) at the top of this page in the "Additional Files" section.

STEP 16 :

Print out the image of Rapunzel full size on an 8.5x11" piece of paper.

STEP 17 :

Use glue or spray adhesive to attach your image to the top of your box.

STEP 18 :

Cut a small hole in the front of your box and a large hole in the back of your box as shown.

STEP 19 :

Feed your string in through the back of the box and out through the front.

STEP 20 :

Put a couple filled water bottles, several tuna fish cans, or something similar inside your box to weigh it down.

STEP 21 :

Place your box on the edge of a table as shown.

STEP 22 :

Tie a very light object that you want to lower to the loose end of your string.

STEP 23 :

Turn power on and set your DC motor to CW (Clockwise).

STEP 24 :

Select the "BUTTON" option from the "BIT CONTROLS" menu in the littleBits Invent app to control your invention.
