A car that races when light shines on it

Bits used: dc motor , fork, light trigger, power

Difficulty: Advanced



  1. 1

    First, let's build the circuit. Connect lipo battery to a fork.

    On 2 sides of the fork, attach 1 light trigger

  3. 3

    At the end of each light trigger, attach a DC motor

  4. 4

    Laser cut the car vector files out of balsa wood. The file is attached to this project under "other files".

    Attach the front wheels to the dc motor shafts with Sugru (you can also use another brand of modeling clay)

    Attach the back wheels to shaft using Sugru – using a balsa wood stick as a shaft.

    Lay each wheel assembly in the track on the base piece of the car

  8. 8

    Place your bits assembly on top of the base. Be sure the light triggers are facing down.

    Next, attach the 2 sides of the car to the base. The grooves are directional, so be sure to attach the sides horizontally (they will not fit if you try to attach them from the top).

    Attach the front bumper piece into the base, the same way as the sides

    Slide the front hood and back cover into the sides.

  12. 12

    Make sure the lipo battery gets compressed between the rear wheel assembly and the back cover. This will hold the shaft against the base.

    Now you're ready to ride! Turn on the power, flash a light on your car and watch it vroom!
