Use the DC motor to make this gliding ice skater for the Holiday Season!
How To Make It
Let's begin by creating the circuit! Connect the following bits in this orders: power to dc motor to pulse to wire to bright led
Use the little purple screwdriver to adjust the rate of the pulse Bit. This will make your bright led blink faster or slower.
Use cardboard to make a box (or find a box!) to be the base of your skating rink.
Cover the box in foil to create your icy pond and then glue down some fluffed up cotton balls to make the snow. Decorate your skating rink with construction paper for trees, an igloo or anything else you like -- let your imagination run!
Poke a hole in the center of your box. This is where the dc motor shaft will go.
Secure the motor to the motor to the bottom of the box with tape and make sure the motor is free to spin within the hole.
Next we'll make our skater. Take a piece of paper and fold it in half. Now draw a figure on paper and make sure that the skater's hand is at the fold of the paper. We will cut out the figure through both sides of the paper like a paper doll.
Glue the skater together and before you seal the legs, place an inch of pipe cleaner inside so that the pipe cleaner is held inside the skater.
Now decorate the skater however you would like. Remember to color both sides.
To make our skater spin, we are going to attach it to the dc motor with a pipe cleaner. Wrap the end of the pipe cleaner around the motor shaft so that it does not slip when rotating.
Use styrofoam balls to make a cute little snow man. Hollow out the bottom of your snowman and place the bright led inside.
Now we've created a fun winter scene complete with lights and motion. Enjoy your winter wonderland!
