Why we invested in Take Your Kid to Work Day

Should it be fun or career-oriented? Both, please!

April 27, 2017

Did you know that more than 37 million Americans take their children to work on the fourth Thursday of April each year? Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day is a great way to spend quality time with your child and give him or her perspective on what your career is like.

And, it’s not about skipping school. In fact, for many kids this is a way for them to see innovation, teamwork, collaboration, and creativity first-hand, applied in a professional atmosphere.

At littleBits, we’re completely invested in this holiday because we think it’s essential for a child’s imagination and skills. We aim to bring play and fun into the invention process. Learning is about building and the process itself should be enjoyed.

At our own Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day at littleBits HQ, we offer major insights on what it’s like to have a career as an engineer, editor, coder, and more. But, we also want it to be a mega-fun and open experience. There’s playtime with littleBits + Minecraft, beta testing of top-secret inventions, food games with the Makey Makey Bit, Q&As with different departments and professions at littleBits, and of course, a giant purple ball pit. Doesn’t that sound grand? And the kids are learning at the same time.

Who knows what you and your child could invent at today’s Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day? And stay tuned to our littleBits Twitter and Instagram accounts to see our own twist on Take Your Kid to Work Day this year!
