Tell us more about your organization/space.
Makerspace Bekasi has been operating since January 2015. We renovated a home office and transformed it into a makerspace. Our space is focused on teaching children computers, crafts and electronics.
I was inspired to start a Global Chapter because…
1. It was a great opportunity to help everyone in our community become makers.
2. I wanted to help further the maker movement in Indonesia.
Tell us about your most recent event.
We hosted our “littleBits #MakeMusicMay” event on May 30, 2015. It was attended by some of my colleagues, family friends and their children. We helped the children learn the basics of littleBits and then had them make their own music.
What were some of the projects that came out of your event?
There were three small projects that were made during the event, including a simple music keyboard, making sound waves and disco music instruments.
What did you learn from hosting this event?
There was a lot that learned from this event, given it was the first event in Makerspace Bekasi as an official Chapter leader. For future events, we need to schedule a short littleBits training session for the adults as well, not just the kids. We also plan to add additional modules to grow our library and we’ll also need to design banners for our events.
Who else in your community inspires you?
Our inspiration comes from our entire community, but especially the children.
What’s next for your chapter?
We need to train future littleBits workshop facilitators and schedule more monthly events in our space.
