Today we’re thrilled to announce that Google for Education selected the newest littleBits kit for its new STEM tools for Chromebooks program, which will help schools everywhere integrate powerful STEM/STEAM learning into their curricula. At littleBits, we want ALL kids inventing and developing STEM/STEAM skills to prepare them for the future, so this is huge.
Google for Education works with educators to curate bundles of tools that help students develop future skills, then works with Chromebook partners to bring the tools to schools at a special discount. The bundles can be purchased alongside Chromebooks or independently from U.S. Chromebook resellers. littleBits is one of the first hardware tools selected for a Google for Education bundle, alongside a learning innovator, Dremel 3D Idea Builder, a 3D printer that prints solid objects.
Featured in this hardware bundle is the newly launched littleBits Code Kit. Our Code Kit combines coding and gaming into one kit. Students will learn how to code with the Code Kit app, which uses block-based visual coding powered by Google’s Blockly. They get started by building 4 games, and have over 100 activities included as a launch point for endless engagement.
Blair Mishleau is an educator at KIPP DC Heights Academy in Washington, D.C. and tested the littleBits Code Kit as part of the littleBits Lead Educator program. “I love the integration between hard and software. I’ve used other materials that offer similar functionality, but it involves lots more coding and doesn’t always have Blockly as an option. I love that Blockly is an option here, and that the pieces snap together so neatly.”
This new hardware bundle will turn the classroom into an engaging and innovative environment that prepares students with the STEM/STEAM skills they will need for the careers of the future. If you want to see the Code Kit for yourself and will be at ISTE this year, stop by our booth #2938! We’ll also be demoing the kit at the Google booth, #1718.
