Education: Robot Fest 2014

The Wonderful World of Robotics

May 8, 2014

As the littleBits team gears up for another awesome weekend at Maker Faire Bay Area, we share with you a recent event, Robot Fest, that Evangelist Glenn Mossy attended.

Robot Fest, an annual event for anyone interested in the creative use of technology, was held on April 12th at the National Electronics Museum in Linthicum, Maryland. Our own littleBits Evangelist Glenn Mossy led a table at the event and had a great time teaching young and old alike about our modules. This event showcased how littleBits can be used to build robots at home or in educational settings without requiring wiring, soldering or complex programming.

It could best be described as a “Day of Playful Invention.” Makers, hackers, hobbyists, DIY-ers, experimenters, students, artists, and engineers of all ages shared their passion for technology and creativity by showcasing and explaining their creations and inventions.

littleBits was among over 30 organizations exhibited in the expo.  Other notable participants included the Art Institute of Washington, First Lego League, Lego Combat Robots, R2 DC Builders Club, RepRap, Salt Dough Circuitry, Classic Plastic Bricks, The Numbers Lady, the DC Robotics Group, and Novalabs.

This event is sponsored each year by the National Electronics Museum, which is a technology marvel in its own right. The museum houses decades worth of creative engineering and showcases technical advances in science and engineering. Visitors are inspired with an appreciation of the evolutionary milestones in electronics that led to the sophisticated products in use today, and honor the achievements of the pioneers who made these advancements possible. An awesome place for the event and a great fit for littleBits…R2D2 was impressed too!
