Meet the Inventor

Primary Students at Escola Peter Pan

When these primary school students at Escola Peter Pan in Barcelona put their creativity to work, magical things can happen. These Grand Prize winners of the Illuminating Invention challenge dreamed up Paquito the Dragon, your best friend who is always there to lend a helping hand and little bit of inspiration.

Where are you based?
Our primary school, Escola Peter Pan, is located in Barcelona.

How would you describe yourself in six words or less?
Creative, patient, innovative, friendly, and funny.

What was your littleBits “a-ha!” moment? The moment you were bitten by the littleBits bug.
Paquito the Dragon was our first project made with littleBits. So our a-ha! moment came when Paquito started to take shape and especially when it was fully operational. Then, we thought that maybe we could have a chance to win the Illuminating Invention challenge. It was a very cool moment.

When starting a littleBits project, what does your design and video process look like?
First, we thought about making two different projects using two Steam Student Sets, but then we realised that it was better to join forces and to work together to use as many Bits as we could. In our country we celebrate Saint George day so we had a brilliant idea: why don’t we make our own dragon? We split into different cooperatives groups to focus on all the needed tasks to make the dragon: electronics, shape, wheels, wings and mouth. Next, we put all the pieces together and we started calling Paquito for some help.

To shoot the video, first we wrote a script, then we convinced our guest star Paquito and when it was all set, we took the video camera to shoot all the scenes. Finally, we recorded the voice-over and we edited the video.

How has littleBits impacted you creatively?
When we started using littleBits we were as creative as a walrus, but after finishing our first project, we can truly say that we are much creative now.

What do you plan on inventing next?
Being a dragon like Paquito can be very hard because everyone is calling you for some help. So we don’t want him to feel alone. That’s why we are planning to make Paquito’s wife. We are going to call her “Paquita the dragoness”.
