Meet the Inventor

Parker Maimbourg

Meet Parker Maimbourg, a film student at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn New York.   He makes awesome tutorials on YouTube – most recently he built a lightsaber prop for #BitWars, using a bright led, bargraph, a slide dimmer and a button.  Watch the video above to see how he converted household recyclables and craft materials into a functional movie prop.

I am based in Brooklyn NY but was raised in Cleveland OH.

How would you describe yourself in an Ernest Hemingway-style novel? (6 words or less)
I would describe myself as quiet, ambitious, quirky and clumsy.

What was your littleBits “a-ha!” moment? The moment you were bitten by the littleBits bug.
I was skeptical at first, but as soon as I got my hands on the kit and created my first circuits that I fell in love.

When starting a littleBits project, what does your design and video process look like?
I usually make some sketches and then start building. I normally just do a trial and error process and once I envision the finished project I just build it. I have a vision in mind and execute it, obviously improvising along the way. I have a weird talent which allows me to visualize all the parts of building the projects while I’m building. Most of the tutorial structure comes after filming the process.

How has littleBits impacted you creatively?
I think littleBits can allow me to create circuits without the need for dangerous soldering or circuit boards.

What do you plan on inventing next?
My next tutorial will be a remote control light switch so I can turn off my lights when I’m cozy in bed and forgot to turn the lights off.

I wish they had littleBits when I was a kid, I would have made so many amazing projects!

Thanks so much to littleBits!
