The Thingfully Club will host events for educators of all stripes—formal, informal, parents, peer-to-peer (i.e., youth) and lifelong learners who love to teach. Most events will be conducted using Design Thinking methods that encourage collaboration, creativity, problem solving and iteration in a hands-on workshop setting.
Please bring a laptop and a Minecraft account and check out the littleBits bitCraft Mod!
The Internet of Things (IoT) is here and we will explore how to integrate the real world with the Minecraft world.
I will bring the bits, but you will need to prepare the way for the bitCraft mod by downloading a platform designed to make modding Minecraft simple, called Technic Launcher. http://www.technicpack.net
In order to get started, first download Technic Launcher. Run the launcher, and log in with your Minecraft account. Once you’re in, click the “Modpacks” tab at the top of the window, and search for “littleBits bitCraft”. You should see the bitCraft mod appear! Click “Install” in the lower-right corner, and then “Play”.NEXT, set up a circuit like the one below. You don’t have to use a slide dimmer or bargraph specifically. Buttons, pressure sensors, LEDs, etc. all work well.
At this point we will be ready to play!
